Home or home office users who need a new printer may wish to look at the Dell P513w. A compact inkjet device, the P513w combines a printer, scanner, and copier into one intuitively-designed machine.
The P513w can be connected to your PC either wirelessly or via a hi-speed USB 2.0 device. Because of its wireless connection, multiple users can connect to it at the same time, making it a good solution for a home network. It is capable of printing at a max speed of 33ppm for black and 30ppm for color jobs. There is also a 2.4” LCD screen for previewing photos. There is a PictBridge connection and memory card slots which enables users to print directly from their digital cameras or cards without having to turn on a PC.
The paper handling is the other fact that limits it to life inside the home. The P513w can hold up to 100 sheets of paper at a time, and the output tray is only rated for a capacity of 25 sheets. One nice feature not standard at printers which retail in the low $100s or less is the automatic duplex printing which comes standard. From an environmental standpoint, it’s a very eco-centric thing to do and from what we have seen, more printer manufacturers are willing to bring the technology into lower end models.
Like it’s relative the Dell v715w, the P513w uses a two cartridge ink system. No information was readily available about page yields, so one will have to examine the box in the store or contact Dell by phone or online to determine that fact.
Overall, this does look like a very nice printer from Dell. PC Magazine reported from their tests that the overall print quality was very good and that the quality of the photos was average for an inkjet.
